The Great American Best-Seller
The Last of the Mohicans was published in Philadelphia in 1826. In Cooper's lifetime, new American editions appeared in 1827, 1835, 1849, and 1850. In England, it was published in 1826, and was reprinted in 1831 and later.

The novel was quickly translated into French (1826), German (1826), Danish (1827), Swedish (1828), Italian (1829), Norwegian (1830), Spanish (1832), and Portuguese (1838). It can be read today in over 30 languages.
