The Landing in Shakopee in Scott County, Minnesota — The American Midwest (Upper Plains)
Good for the Sole
Cobbler's Shop
Did You Know?
Cobblers did more than fix shoes. They used their skill to craft or repair a wide variety of leather goods.
Leather goods like shoes were too expensive to throw away when they started to wear out. A community relied on someone who had the skills to repair and reuse these items.
Cobblers fixed all types of leather goods but specialized in shoes. They gave old shoes new life by stitching ripped seams, replacing worn soles and refitting broken heels.
In this house, a cobbler worked from home. The two front doors helped separate family life from business life.
