Inscription. Built in the Renaissance style in 1910, this church served its congregation (originally organized in 1889) until a new edifice was finished in 1956.

On December 3, 1911, the congregation of First Christian Church dedicated their impressive new structure at Tenth and Robinson. This structure, the property here nominated, is architecturally significant. It was designed in the Neo-Classical Revival style which experienced tremendous popularity during the period 1890-1915. 2. Old First Christian Church Marker
of the building include a raised dome, and three cupolas on the northwest, southwest, and southeast corners, as well as pilasters at corners capped with Corinthian capitals.

The congregation moved three miles north to a new sanctuary in December, 1956. Its new dome-shaped “Church of Tomorrow” became an architectural landmark that also lands on the National Register. However, rising costs and dwindling membership forced the church to move to smaller quarters elsewhere on its property in 2020, and the iconic “egg church” was demolished two years later.
