1. Newbury Old Town/Fire Hall Marker
The Newbury Old Town / Fire Hall has a vibrant past in servicing the needs of the Village of Newbury, as well as providing some fine entertainment.
In 1914 a Model T fire engine was purchased (second hand) in Woodstock. Hugh McNaughton drove it to Newbury, where it would be used to serve the community for 15 years. Later, a 1929 Model A fire truck served as the local fire engine for 18 years. The Village of Newbury loves to bring the 1929 fire truck to present-day parades, as a fond reminder of earlier days. In 1963, a new fire truck with a capacity of 1200 gallons of water was purchased.
Since it was necessary to provide a fire hall for the larger fire truck, the Town Hall was remodeled with a new addition. It now provided a heated area for the truck. The building also housed the municipal offices. When the fire department moved in, the post office and hydro company moved into the former post office - where the municipal offices now exist.
The new fire engine came in handy during a particularly dry period in the autumn of 1963, supplying area farmers with water; the water coming from the proposed Newbury Hospital

Newbury opened a Barn Dance Program from the stage of the Old Town / Fire Hall on November 10, 1946, which was broadcast over CFCO Radio in Chatham, Ontario. The show featured local talent, and was sponsored by the Newbury Chamber of Commerce of which the following businessmen were members: Phillip Abbot, L. Abbot, John McNaughton, R. Dunham, James Bell, Adair Blain, John Archer and L.C. Hagerty. This project closed in early 1951.
