2. Midlothian Veterans Memorial
The chair on the pathway to the memorial (on the left side of this photo) is dedicated to Christopher Abeyta, the most recent servicemember from Midlothian to die in battle.
Sgt. Christopher Abeyta, the most recent casualty of war, was killed on March 15, 2009, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in Afghanistan. He was one of three Illinois National Guard soldiers, all members of the 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, who were killed in the attack. Sgt. Abeyta is buried at Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.
