1. Ailsa Craig Marker
Inscription. Ailsa Craig was named by David Craig, one of the original village founders. He was attracted to the area by the fertile soil of the Ausable river valley and he farmed the land north of what is known today as Middlesex County Road 7. He named the village after a small volcanic island that he recalled seeing from his childhood home near Ballentrae, UK on the southwest coast of Scotland. Shown above, the island of Ailsa Craig is located 8 miles off the Scottish coast in the Firth of Clyde. It is unique for its Blue Hone and Common Green granites, These rare granites continue to be collected to manufacture the world's finest curling stones.

Erected by North Middlesex/ Friends of “Ye Olde Towne Hall”.
