1. E.E. Ogle Store Marker
Inscription. The first store in Gatlinburg was Noah Ogle's store built in 1850. In approximately 1910, the store was moved to this site at the corner of the old River Road and the Elkmont Highway, and in 1916 or 1917 Noah's son, Ephriam, took over the store operation. Known as EE Ogle and Company, the store housed the Post Office from 1916 to 1925, and in 1918 E.E. Ogle was appointed Postmaster. E.E.'s son Charles A. (Charlie) Ogle operated the store until 1946, during which time the business size and merchandise lines increased. Charlie's son, Charles Earl Ogle, Sr., operated the business until 1975 when the Mountain Mall was constructed. The Ogle family still owns and manages the mall, a business which is descended from Noah Ogle's first store in the community over 100 years ago.
