Inscription. From the Panhandle to the Hill Country and all across Texas, water towers rise up out of the landscape, an indication of civilization ahead. In some cases, rusted out, they are lonely reminders of days gone by. But in hundreds of small communities, their towers brightly painted with their names written in bold letters on the tank, they stand erect as proud symbols of a community's identity.

Perhaps no other tower in the state is as important to its citizens as the Shamrock tower. Since the beginning, it has been a source of pride for the community whether for the feat of engineering to help bring water to a growing community or for the fact that it was once the tallest of its kind in the state and remains one of Texas tallest. For those who grew up here, the sight of the Shamrock tower on a return trip home evokes a nostalgic response to the memories from the past.

Still in use today at almost 100 years old, it stands as a testament to the engineering skills of those of the early twentieth century and as a source of pride for the citizens of Shamrock and Wheeler County. A towering configuration
