The welded aluminum hull of the Sheridan provides the weight reduction needed to facilitate air transport and the ability to "swim" lakes and rivers. The main gun tube doubles as a launch tube for the "Shillelagh" missile. A product of the Vietnam era, the Sheridan did not meet the Army's expectations.
