Primarily an anti-tank gun, the Pak-40 did see some anti-personnel use. Distinctive features are the low-profile and the double-plate spaced shield for crew protection. Note also the fractured breech ring. That is the result of intentional sabotage by the German gun crew at the time of abandoning the gun on the battlefield. This gun was returned to Fort Knox as a war trophy by the Third Army (Patton).
