1. The North-west Tower Marker
Inscription. You are standing in one of the towers that overlooked medieval Kendal. Originally, it had three storeys but the uppermost level has been destroyed.

The lower storey is a rough stone vault, maybe used as a store room. The upper room would have been comfortable private accommodation, perhaps for a castle official. It has a fireplace, spiral staircase and two big windows that look out across the town and the courtyard. Through the narrow doorway is the indoor toilet (garderobe) - the exit hole for this can be seen on the outer curtain wall. Can you find the steep and narrow stair from the ground floor to the roof, within the tower wall to save space?
