Inscription.
As of 2024, about 600 Clinton Countians have served in the Middle East since 2001. MAJ Thomas J. Motel was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Afghanistan with the 452nd Medical Detachment. SSG Jeffrey D. Rembold engaged in airborne and air assault operations, direct action, and airfield seizure as a member of the 3rd Ranger Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. TSG Jim Frey served with the 79th AMU as a weapon expediter for F-16 Fighting Falcons. SSG Daniel K. Stein was awarded the Bronze Star for retrieving two casualties from the field under heavy fire during his service with the 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry. PO1 (SEAL) Stephen Toboz, Jr., was awarded the Silver Star for heroic action under heavy fire during a mountain rescue mission in Operation Anaconda. SFC Eric B. Hoover earned three Bronze Stars for meritorious service in multiple deployments, notably with the 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry.
