1. Myndert Harris 1748-1823 Marker

Inscription. Born in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess Co., N.Y., USA of English and Dutch descent. When the thirteen colonies declared war on England, he remained loyal to King George III and served during the Revolution in the Quarter Master Department at New York. When the war was over, he took his family to Digby, Nova Scotia. In 1793, they set out for Upper Canada via New York City and thence to the Hudson, Mohawk and Oswego Rivers to the head of Lake Ontario. Here, advised by Governor Sincoe, they went on a gun boat commanded by Capt. Jonathon Walton to Smith's Creek (Port Hope): Arriving June 7, 1793, he received a Crown grant of land on the site where Trinity College School now stands.
