1. Gold Star Family Memorial Monument Marker (front)
This monument pays tribute to the sacrifices made by Gold Star Families who lost a Loved One in military service to the United States of America.
The Homeland panel depicts the USS North Carolina and serves as a commemoration of the heroism of US service members from North Carolina in World War II.
The Family panel represents each branch of the military and the flag under which they served.
The Patriot panel shows the inspiring patriotism and courage of our Armed Forces and the rendering of the flag on Iwo Jima in World War II.
The Sacrifice panel represents those who made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting our nation and defending the United States of America.
This monument was made possible through the efforts of the New Hanover County, North Carolina Gold Family Memorial Monument Committee and Hershel Woody Williams, Medal of Honor recipient.
