1. "Dumb Street" and the Calico Ditch Marker
Inscription. Behind you is Karl Avenue, the place we decided to build our home. Frieda and I bought this narrow property soon after we were married in 1910. In front of you is an old millstream referred to as “Calico Ditch,” which fed a feed mill in Dover. Everyone warned us how dumb we must have been to live at the end of this tiny street, with no stone walls or flat place to construct our home. With a laugh, I just said we would have to nickname it “Dumb Street” because “the further down you travel, the dumber the people got. And yes, we lived in the last house.”
