1. Squire Home Residence - 48 Albert Street East - Marker
Inscription. At this site, the Secretary of the Welland Canal Company - "Squire" James Black built a two-story, stucco-clad frame house in c. 1835 - one of the first domestic dwellings in Old Town Thorold. Although altered significantly in 1915, features of the original building were retained, including the balconied verandah that was characteristic of many homes built in this area during the canal-building heyday of the mid-19th century.
 
Erected 2012 by Heritage Thorold.
