Inscription. From 1888 to 1977 the brave men of the Merritton Volunteer Fire Department left their families, their homes, their jobs, their businesses when the alarm called them to service. They gave willingly, without expectation of recognition or reward, not knowing what perils they faced. Gratefully acknowledged for outstanding service and lifelong dedication, and never forgotten by the people of Merritton.

Courage is looking fear in the eye and saying
"Get out of my way, I've got things to do."
