1. Doing Good at Deep Creek Lake Marker
Deep Creek Lake serves as a focal point for the community, not just as a recreational haven but also as a hub for local non-profit organizations. The lake and its surrounding area provide a unique environment where various non-profits thrive, each contributing to the community in distinct ways. A variety of non-profit organizations are deeply intertwined with the lake’s identity, fostering a spirit of cooperation and community service that enhances the quality of life for both residents and visitors.
The Deep Creek Lake Lions Club, for instance, hosts its Blind Skier and Blind Camper programs at the lake and surrounding area. During these events, the Club provides the opportunity for youth who are visually impaired to experience outdoor recreation activities like skiing, boating and camping. The lake is also the setting for a number of the Club’s events like the annual Boat Parade and Poker Cruises, bringing people together, while raising funds and awareness for the Club’s mission.
Special Olympics of Maryland takes advantage of the often-frozen lake in the winter to hold the Deep Creek Dunk - a yearly fundraising

HART for Animals leverages the region’s love for outdoor activities and natural beauty to promote animal welfare, organizing fundraising events that often tie in with the lake’s attractions, such as local guest bartender nights, and the annual Art and Wine Festival that appeal to the lake’s many visitors.
For over 10 years, Deep Creek Lake State Park hosted the Savageman, a legendary triathlon which began as a fundraiser to support skin cancer research. The lake has been the setting for numerous races by boat, foot and bike over the years, including the Gran Fondo, a bicycling event put on by Garrett Trails.
Stage West, a local performing arts collective, enriches the cultural landscape of Deep Creek Lake by bringing high-quality arts programming to the area. The organization hosts concerts, theatrical performances, and art exhibitions, many of which are set against the stunning backdrop of the lake.
