1. New Life for an Old Building Marker

Inscription.
The Valhalla Boathouse
When Walter Heller purchased this land from George Pope Sr. in 1923, this boathouse was mistakenly sold with the rest of the property. After the sale, George Pope, Sr. sold the boathouse to Heller for one dollar and built another just to the west.

In 1992, the boathouse was converted into a community theater under the provisions of the National Historic Preservation Act. Transforming a historic building for another use is called "adaptive reuse." In this case, it was a joint effort between the US Forest Service and the Tahoe Tallac Association.
