Hampton-Pinckney in Greenville in Greenville County, South Carolina — The American South (South Atlantic)
Hampton-Pinckney Neighborhood
Previously Highland Ave., Hampton Ave. assumed its current name upon the 1902 death of Gov. Wade Hampton III. Pinckney St. was named for and originally spelled the same as William Pinkney McBee (d. 1860), who lived where the street was later laid. In the 1970s residents organized to rehabilitate neighborhood homes that had deteriorated as families moved away after WWII. The name Hampton-Pinckney was coined amid those efforts.
