1. Syringa vulgaris 'Sensation' Marker

Inscription. A cell mutation resulted in the aptly named 'Sensation', a popular lilac with deep purple petals edged in white. Discovered in 1938 by a Dutch nurseryman, this lilac was the first to display bicolor flowers and remains the only one commercially available. A few other lilacs can appear similarly two-toned. 'Albert Holden', planted nearby, has purple petals that curl to reveal silvery backs.
