Inscription. The Kitchen Garden is in memory of Elizabeth LaBoyteaux Morgan, the second wife of Elisha Morgan. The 1820 census shows two adults and six children living in the two-room "mansion."

Gardens of this type were typically located next to the house, or near, an unattached summer kitchen. They contained both medicinal and culinary herbs, flowers for cutting and many varieties of vegetables, including corn, beans, and squash planted in the Native American style of "Three Sisters."
