Fort Totten in Queens in Queens County, New York — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
322 Story Ave.
Constructed in 1892
Original uses: Artillery Barracks and Mess Hall
Current use: FDNY Training Facilities and Classrooms
Along with two other identical structures (Buildings 323 and 325), these three-story barracks were built to meet the housing needs of the rapidly expanding fort, then still known as the Fort at Willets Point. Created to provide living space for 133 soldiers, this building replaced earlier wooden-frame barracks and was the last multi-story barracks built at the fort. Additions to the original structure include a one-and-a-half-story rear extension around 1904, which was later enlarged by one story in 1941.
