1. The Hyde Park Foot Bridge Marker
Inscription. Designed by the John A. Roebling’s Sons Co. of Trenton, NJ and constructed of wood on the piers of the Pennsylvania Railroad’s former East Leechburg Bridge in 1920. The original bridge washed away in the St. Patrick’s Day Flood of 1936. Rebuilt in 1937, it became unsafe by 1948. The original drawings were updated for steel construction by engineer Carl Jacobsen. Freeland Construction Co. of Pittsburgh constructed the present three span, 600-foot-long wire rope suspension bridge. Opened in September of 1950, it is officially known as Armstrong County Bridge No.13. Locally it is known as “The Walking Bridge” and it has connected the people of Leechburg and Hyde Park for over a century.
