The artist, Jessie Spiker, researched the subject in depth, using the known illustration of him from his book, as well as notes from various historical publications. From this research, she was able to determine the size of his powder horn and shot bag thereby creating an authentic recreation of Mr Browning. The age of the white pine log "blank" of this sculpture was estimated at around 200 years old and was harvested in the New Germany area, so could have conceivably been a sapling in the area of Browning's hunting expeditions.

This piece was commissioned through the contribution of an anonymous donor who wanted a permanent monument to Browning at the entry to the trail system.
