1. Jacob Mabee’s Inn Marker
Inscription.
The last significant addition to the home, the inn was built by Jacob Mabee c. 1790. Originally a freestanding structure, the inn capitalized on the increased traffic of the Mohawk River, accommodating weary travelers who would sail by the farm's shores. Welcomed with home cooked food and a mug of ale, guests warmed themselves by the fireplace before snuggling into a warm, dry garrett for a safe night's rest.

The inn operated successfully for several decades, providing an additional source of revenue for the family. When the Erie Canal (1825) began to divert traffic away from the river, the inn was no longer profitable and the Mabees converted the building into living space.

While the inn is evidence of prevailing Dutch building styles, the presence of an enclosed fireplace shows English influence. Built at a time of cultural and historical transition, the building. has seen many transformations. Today, the inn is representative of change and adaptation, both at Mabee Farm and throughout the region.
