1. Fr. Michael J. McGivney Marker
Father Michael J. McGivney was an assistant pastor at St. Mary's Church on Hillhouse Avenue in New Haven. During his time there, in 1882 he founded the Knights of Columbus, an organization of Catholic men with now over 2 million member families and over 16 thousand councils worldwide. The Knights contribute to charitable funding for refugees, disaster victims, disabled citizens, veterans, and education, and advocate global Catholic social causes and ethics. In 1996, the cause for Father McGivney's canonization (recognition of his sainthood by the Church) was opened. On October 31, 2020 he was beatified (given the title of "blessed") after a miraculous healing was attributed to his intercession.
