Nunda in Lake County, South Dakota — The American Midwest (Upper Plains)
In Appreciation
The bell served the community well until mid 1950's when it was decided that it should be retired and replaced with a siren.
Kenny Ottoson, local mechanic was given the bell as partial payment for removing the bell and replacing it with a siren. He later sold it to Galen and Eunice Crosby of Madison, South Dakota.
Galen and Eunice kept the bell at their home on Lake Herman, South Dakota. It was often used to call their children to the dinner table.
In 2012 Galen and Eunice and their family generously decided to donate the bell to the Nunda Fire Department.
The town of Nunda and the Nunda Fire Department would like to extend their sincere appreciation for this generous gift.
