1. Portrait of Meshach Browning Marker

3D-printed plaques decorated with various media, 2020

This project consists of 3D-printed plaques depicting Meshach Browning and his dogs which have been painted and decorated by community members and assembled into a mosaic. The production of these panels was paid for by an Impact Garrett County grant awarded by the Population Health, Innovation & Informatics Unit at the Garrett County Health Department with primary funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The Deep Creek Lake Lions Club coordinated the project, commissioned the 3D-sculpt of Browning and assembled the individual plaques into the final mosaic.

Participants consisted of community members who expressed interest in contributing to the project and were mailed a plaque to paint in their own manner (blank sample on right). Many of the participants are direct descendants of Browning and documented their lineage on the back of the plaques (as referenced by a small number on those plaques). Students in the Partners After School program also participated in this project, providing them with a historical and artistic educational opportunity.
