Montrose near Glendale in Los Angeles County, California — The American West (Pacific Coastal)
Vietnam War Memorial
NW Corner Ocean View and Honolulu Ave
| | Historic Montrose - Est. 1913 | |
The Montrose Vietnam War Memorial was the first in the U.S. to honor soldiers who gave their lives in that conflict. The Ledger newspaper's Don Carpenter challenged the community to fund this effort, and the response was so great that the Ledger actually had to ask citizens to stop sending money. The excess funds were used to maintain the memorial. Another plaque of note nearby honors Bill Bailey and Vito Cannella, the local men who created National Flag Week.
Erected by Montrose Shopping Park Association, Historical Society of the Crescenta Valley, and Boy Scout Troop 317.
