The town general store was a one-stop shop for life's necessities. People could buy everything from groceries and animal feed to socks and chamber pots. Items not available in stock could easily be ordered by mail and delivered directly to the store.

But the general store wasn't only for shopping. A trip to the store was an outing for the whole family. Friends visited, children played together, and news was exchanged. The general store even served as the post office in many small towns.
