Hotel Gabelshus was built in 1912 by the architects Morgenstierne and Eide as a guesthouse. The first three managers and owners were women; Mrs. Barbara Larssen, Sofie Sommerfeldt and Agathe Riekeles. Miss Sofie Sommerfeldt ran the guesthouse from 191845 and was known as a very funny, but determined(Submitted on June 27, 2025.)lady who liked to smoke a pipe with her guests. She also had two parrots that flew freely around the house.
In the second half of the 1940s, Agathe Riekeles took over the guesthouse and developed it into a first-class hotel. In 2000, the Hotel Gabelshus was merged together with Hotel Ritz at Frederik Stangs gate 3.
