Inscription.  French:

English:
The Field-side Tower
The «towers on the fields side» are a reminder of the time when the castle marked the northern boundary of the town, opening up onto the countryside. A small district nestled at the foot of the wall, and the view over the countryside remained largely unobstructed. In 1957, this land was still available for the reconstruction of the university on a new site, while a modern church was built on the site of the quarries (Saint-Julien, 1954).

Puchot Tower seen from Rue de Geôle (C. Le Nourichel, 1837)
