Inscription.  French:

English:
The Donjon and its moat
View of the ruins of the Donjon. You can see the foundations of the large Anglo-Norman keep (c. 1120), built by Duke-King Henry I Beauclerc (1100/1106-1135). It is surrounded by the «chemise» (a wall encircling the keep) and its moat, both dating from the reign of French King Philip Augustus in the early 13th century. The Donjon was ruined in 1793 and excavated in the 1950s/60s.
