Inscription.  French:
Cette arme est devenue la principale pièce d'artillerie de moyenne portée de l'armée britannique à partir de 1944. L'obusier de 140 mm pouvait tirer un obus de 37 kg à plus de 16 km, avec une précision de 2 mètres, à une cadence de 2 coups par minute. Ce canon d'un poids de 5 tonnes pouvait être mis en service par un équipage de 10 hommes en quelques minutes. Les bras du canon devaient être rassemblés pour le remorquage et écartés en position de tir. Il était remorqué par un camion tout terrain AEC "Matador" qui transportait aussi les munitions, les outils et les pièces de rechange. Plusieurs régiments, équipés d'obusiers de 140 mm, ont soutenu la 6ème Division Aéroportée au cours des combats sur le flanc Est en 1944.

This weapon was the standard medium gun in the British Army from 1944. It equipped most medium regiments of the Royal Artillery. The 5.5 inch gun could fire a 36kgs standard charge at 16 kms with a rate of fire of 2 rounds a minute. Reputed for its accuracy; rounds could be fired to within 2 metres of the target. positions, the crew of ten could bring the gun, weighing 5 tons, into action. The arms of the gun were brought together for towing or spread apart for firing. The 5.5 inch gun was towed by a four-wheel drive A.E.C Matador truck that also carried the ammunition, spares and essential tools. Several regiments, composed of 5.5 inch guns, gave gunfire support to the 6th Airborne Division during the combat on the eastern flank in 1944.
