James Hill, un des fondateurs du «Parachute Regiment» était un des officiers aéroportés les plus expérimentés. D'abord affecté aux «Royal Fusiliers» en 1931, puis envoyé en France en 1940, il fut un des derniers officiers britanniques à être évacués de Dunkerque. Après un entraînement aéroporté, Hill prit le commandement en 1942 du 1er Bataillon de Parachutistes en Afrique du Nord, Sicile et Italie. Promu Général de Brigade en février 1944, à l'âge de 33 ans, il commanda la 3ème Brigade de Parachutistes qu'il mena de la Normandie à l'Allemagne en passant par la Belgique et la Hollande. A sa mort en mars 2006, James Hill était le dernier plus haut gradé des vétérans du Débarquement. Cette statue a été inaugurée par SAR le Prince de Galles, en présence du Général Hill lors du 60ème anniversaire de l'opération Overlord.

Dunkirk. After Parachute training, Hill commanded 1st Parachute Battalion in North-Africa, Sicily and Italy. Promoted to Brigadier in February 1944, at the age of 33, he took command of 3rd Parachute Brigade, leading them from Normandy into Belgium, Holland and Germany. James Hill was the most senior surviving officer of the D-Day Landings, he died in March 2006. This statue was unveiled by HRH Prince of Wales, in the presence of Brigadier Hill on 60th Anniversary of Operation Overlord.
