1. James Beatty House c. 1870 Marker

Inscription. Built around 1870, the property surrounding this stately Italianate house was owned by Irish-Born William Beatty Sr. and his eldest son James. One of Thorold's most celebrated families, the Beattys established a steamship fleet that plied the Great Lakes from Parry Sound in the years after Confederation, while the Canadian West was being settled. From a family of politicians and entrepreneurs, James is best remembered in Thorold as a shipbuilder and, with his wife Sarah Campbell, as a major patron of the Trinity United Church.
