by the Germans in 1941, and sent to Grini where he was a prisoner for three years. He meant a lot to his fellow prisoners with his numerous lectures on Norwegian literature and culture, according to memory. Francis Bull received a great deal of popular support as well as being an outstanding academic. He received a number of awards, including being created an honorary doctorate at Aarhus University. He authored a number of books. After the Second World War, Tretten taler pε Grini ("Thirteen Speeches at Grini") was published, which went through many editions. He edited the work "Norwegian National Literature".
