The Baier Gates
A native son of Remington, Jasper County, Indiana, Lowell E. Baier was born January 6, 1940. He graduated from the Indiana University School of Law in 1964. In addition to practicing law, Baier fulfilled his intellectual curiosity and entrepreneurial spirit by establishing a commercial real estate business and advocating for natural resources and wildlife conservation. His many accomplishments include extraordinary public service and philanthropic support. Indiana University and the Maurer School of Law are included among the many beneficiaries of his generosity.
These gates mark the southwest corner of the campus as well as one of the four corners of the Old Crescent. The limestone pedestrian entry portals follow the tradition set along the south and west edges of the campus and welcome all to enter, explore, engage, and seek enlightenment.
