Bartholomew "Tole" Fogarty (1839-1917) built this 3-story home in 1871, using only hand tools and his Shipwright craftsmanship.

The town of Fogartyville was established here, (prior to the origin of Braidentown), by 3 Fogarty brothers, from Ireland. It boasted a General Store, Shipyard, Machine shop, 2 Churches, an electric Trolly, bakery, dairy and a cemetery.

On July 1, 1875, "Tole" received his Homestead Patent to this land, App. #3379 for U.S. Lot l, for 75 acres of virgin land.

The Seafaring brothers, John, "Tole" & William "Bill" were all Ship Captains with a total of 7 captains in the family. The Fogarty Bros. created the largest Shipyard on the Manatee River. A later generation added the Fogarty Bros. Transfer Company, a nationwide moving company. The "Tole" Fogarty home, 3101 Riverview Blvd, originally stood 300' feet to the South, (of this location), facing East, in what is now known as Lewis Park. It was moved to the current location circa 1929.

"Captain Bill" Fogarty's home, 1872, still stands at 320 29th St N.W.

The John Fogarty home was razed in 196l.

Tole Fogarty died at age 78 and was buried in Fogartyville Cemetery. The home passed to his daughters, Letitia (d. 1929) and Katherine (d. 1956).

Florida tropical weather is not kind to wooden structures, but the Fogarty home was in remarkably good condition due to being built by skilled boatbuilders.

In 2022, the home was for sale and in jeopardy of being demolished. As a home of 151 years, local historian Peggy Anderson Donoho knew it had much community and historical value and called for volunteers to save the historic structure.

Dr. Harold E. Ott, retired owner of Ruskin Animal Hospital & local Philanthropist stepped forward to save this community treasure, Bradenton's oldest documented house.

General Contractor David Windham led the Historical Restoration with teams of house movers, carpenters, specialists, painters, cabinetmakers, and electricians to bring the home to current building code for the 21st century and beyond.

The restoration goal was to maintain the original 1871 look as much as possible, it has approximately 3,870' sq ft of living space.

Interior designer Lori Lewis, with roots to the Fogarty's of Key West, arranged a new interior layout and furnishings.
