Patterson Commons, 1980s-1990s: Claiming Public Space
| | Patterson Boulevard Canal Parkway | |
Inscription.
The parking lot from the early 1970s was reclaimed as public space, as Patterson Commons began to take its current form. The Rapid Transit Authority building was erected facing Fourth Street. This small block south of Fourth Street and east of St. Clair Street has a connection with the history of transportation in Dayton. This block had been used, during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries for factories that manufactured carriage and electric street car parts. The railroad, the streetcar, and the interurban railway had tracks or stations in its vicinity.
