1. Wakefield's First Purpose-Built Bank Marker
Inscription. Wakefield's first purpose-built bank built for the banking firm of Ingram and Kennet (established in 1785). In 1840 the Wakefield and Barnsley Union Bank took over the property with their second bank manager, William Hey Dykes, living in the premises behind from 1841. Among Dykes' children were hymn composers John Bacchus Dykes and Eliza Sibbald Dykes. Eliza was also a poet and painter whose work was displayed in the Corn Exchange in 1870 alongside that of artist Louisa Fennell.
