Inscription. The Chippawa Post Office sign was installed in the outer wall of the Post Office in 1951, the year our Post Office was opened. The Post Office, on the corner of Willoughby Drive(then Church St.) and Cummington Square South was a meeting place for the residents as well as a place to pick up mail. In 1971 our Post Office was closed and although door-to door delivery was welcomed by most villagers, the social element of the old Post Office was missed by many. The sign was removed and became part of landfill until during the mid-nineties when a construction company worker found the sign while landscaping a parking lot on Ferry St. It was then taken to their construction yard on Allanport Road in Thorold.

In 2011 the sign made its way back to Chippawa and into the hands of Bill Barfield who, as luck would have it, is a member of the Village of Chippawa Citizens' Committee. The committee, with the co-operation of the City of Niagara Falls, unveiled this sign in July, 2016 where it sits directly across from its former home.

Erected 2016 by Village of Chippawa Citizens' Committee.
