Pontefract Castle
Siege Pieces
During the third siege of the Civil Wars, Pontefract Castle issued siege money. The silver lozenge-shaped coins were used to pay troops. The clipped edges of these siege pieces have been found near the ovens, suggesting that the kitchen was also a mint.
