Union Pacific DDA40X locomotive #6916
The Centennial Locomotive
On May 10, 1869, the transcontinental railroad was completed at Promontory Summit Utah. 100 years later, the nation celebrated the anniversary of this event. The first model DDA40X participated in the celebration. That's why it's called the "Centennial Locomotive."
This type of locomotive is powered by two diesel engines on a single frame. You can see the passageway between the two engines in the center of the locomotive.
#6916 hauled priority freight between Ogden, Utah and Omaha, Nebraska as well as to Los Angeles and the Northwest.
