1. alfred Meek Home Marker

Inscription. Alfred W. Meek built this Victorian home in 1891 and lived in it until 1929 when he moved to Salt Lake City. He was the owner of the Alfred W. Meek Plumbing, Steam and Hot Water Heating at 448 East 25th Street which was on the original site of the Bigelow Hotel, later named the Hotel Ben Lomond, and presently known as the Radisson. Mr. Meek later moved his business back to Ogden.

William Abplanalp moved into the home in 1929. He was a high school teacher for the Ogden City Board of Education. The present owners are Scott and Peggy Taylor (1993).

This one and one-half story home is an example of Victorian Eclectic domestic architecture. This type of home is one of the most prevalent residential types in the City. The side hall plan and massing illustrate the asymmetrical nature of the house design. A one-story pedimented porch and gabled dormer project from the main box of the house. The roof line includes a collection of many gables and gablettes. There are also some unusual stick applications at the dormers and windows.
