1. 2468 Madison Avenue Marker

Inscription. Constructed in 1899, this Victorian Eclectic style, central block with projecting bay-type house is typical of turn-of-the-century architecture in Ogden and throughout Utah. Samuel and Mollie Powell were the original owners and lived next door at 2460 Madison. Although this was a second residence for the Powells, it was used primarily as a boarding house for various laborers during the early 20th century, including railroad workers, shopkeepers, U.S. Forest Servicemen, seamstresses, and construction workers. The boarding house was also home to many rogues, most notably Charles Finney, who had numerous run-ins with the Ogden police and other law agencies across Utah. Today the house functions as a private residence.
