(English translation:)
Bank of the Widow Knox and Dortland
Until well into the 19th century, most banks had offices in the banker's home. Staff worked in a small room at the back, while customers were received in a stately room at the front. This was also the case in the bank of the widow Knox and Dortland, established in 1830. Thursday was 'farmers' day' because farmers came to the market that day and immediately arranged their financial affairs. In 1937, a real bank building was built in the style of the Amsterdam School.
