Gouda, South Holland, Netherlands — Northwestern Europe
Rotterdamsche Bank (1921)
| — | Rijksmonument | — |
This former bank building (no. 2) with director's residence (no. 1) was designed by H.F. Mertens, house architect of the Nationale/Rotterdamsche Bankvereeniging. The influence of the Amsterdam School is visible in the decorative brickwork, the geometric carving of the cornice and the sandstone reliefs on the front facade that represent symbols of industry. The art deco interior on the bel-etage is still almost completely intact. The cellar, where the bank vault was located, is accessible via the Museum Garden at the rear of the building. (Marker Number 2229/01.)
