2006 Torino Winter Olympic Opening Celebration
Inscription.
San Diegos Little Italy was the only Little Italy in the United States to honor the XX Winter Olympic Opening Ceremony held in Turin, Italy, on February 10, 2006. The Little Italy Association, New City America, Inc., and San Diego NBC 7/39 worked for several months to create an unforgettable event that was an appropriate tribute to the Olympic Opening Ceremony. Over 20,000 people from all over San Diego came to enjoy an evening of food and culture, in addition to a snow-filled feature for the children, young and old. Beautifully-colored flags from each participating country adorned the streets of Little Italy and the night skies were lit up with vibrant images of the Opening Ceremony displayed on large monitors.
Special thanks to Little Italy Association Board, the staff of New City America, Inc., Phyllis Schwartz of San Diego NBC 7/39, NeoVision, Cox Communications, Mayor Jerry Sanders & staff, City of Diego - Office of Special Events, San Diego Police Department, US Olympic Shops, Lennar, Frank Sciarrino Marble, Granite & Tile, Inc., European Natural Stone Company, Coca-Cola, San Diego Gulls, San Diego National Bank, Peroni, AT&T, Our Lady of the Rosary, T.A.D.D., San Diego State University, Busalacchi Restaurants, Zolezzi Enterprises, and the businesses & residents of Little Italy.
